We’ve collaborated with a lot of amateur musicians in Catford and the surrounding areas. A music studio is an excellent location for practising and recording music. Putting together a room with full gear and plenty of soundproofing is now more affordable than ever, making it a more and more affordable way to tame your inner rockstar.
This is by far the most common form of loft conversion in the United Kingdom. The current back slope is removed, and the rear elevation is built up vertically. To ensure that the loft conversion complies with the local council’s rules, rear dormers are sometimes built straight up from the property’s back wall or, in some cases, they are stepped in slightly. While rear dormer roofs appear flat and are often referred to as flat roofs, the exterior layer of the roof has a slight slope to allow rainwater to run off and into the gutter. The internal ceilings of the dormers are perfectly even.
Two dormers are designed and joined together to create an L-shaped dormer loft conversion. From a bird’s eye view, one flat-roof dormer is constructed over the main part of the roof, while the other is built over the back part of the roof, resulting in the distinctive L-shape. Due to their form, L-shaped dormers are typically only appropriate for Edwardian and Victorian homes with an existing back addition.
A Mansard loft conversion is named after French architect Francois Mansard, who lived in the 17th century. A Mansard is normally found at the back of the building, but it can also be found at the front in some cases. This will rely on the type of house and whether or not any nearby properties have already completed this design and received approval from the local council. The roof of a Mansard conversion is flat with a slight slope to allow water to flow into the gutter, and the Mansard’s face slopes back 72 degrees to produce the distinctive shape.
For detached or semi-detached homes with a hip roof, a hip to gable conversion is often a common choice. A hipped roof has a slanted side in addition to the slopes at the front and back of the building. You build the bottom of the side slope up vertically and extend the current ridge to make a gable end while doing a hip to gable. This greatly expands your existing loft space, also making room for a new stairwell. A hip to gable is not ideal for mid-terraced homes because of its construction, which will never have a hip end roof.
A Velux conversion is a form of loft conversion that does not alter the roofline. Velux windows are installed, allowing natural light to flood the new room. We can only use official Velux windows since they are the leading manufacturer and have their own warranty.
